1.0 Special Education Paraprofessional Job Posting - North Haven High School
Provide academic, behavioral, and safety supports to maintain effective instructional programs for
students with disabilities under the guidance of their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
1. Post secondary coursework preferred.
2. Experience working with adolescents with learning disabilities, emotional disturbance or
behavioral concerns.
3. Good work attendance record.
4. Experience providing safety and behavioral supports to students.
5. Ability to follow teacher direction and written plans.
6. Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
7. Effective oral and written communication skills.
8. Ability to work with and meet individual needs of children as directed by teachers and other
professional staff.
9. Ability to read and understand basic elements of an IEP.
Responsibilities (not an exhaustive list):
1. Implementation of proactive behavior and learning strategies.
2. Use of strategies that provide learner independence and positive self-esteem.
3. Tutoring/providing instruction under the supervision of a special education teacher.
4. Assistance in accommodating and modifying learning strategies based on learning styles, ability
levels and other individual differences.
5. Review and reinforcement of learning and social activities.
6. Assistance in engaging learners through supporting student’s behavior plans.
7. Collection of data on learner activity.
8. Participation in scheduled meetings and sharing relevant information.
9. Carry out functional (informal) assessment activities.
Range of Possible Duties:
Job duties may vary depending on assignment. Individuals may be reassigned, as necessary.
Job duties may include:
1. Self-care activities, including toileting and hygiene.
2. Behavior management.
3. Lifting of individuals.
