Northwestern Regional High School and Middle School are experiencing a severe shortage of available substitute teachers. In addition to causing concerns about class coverage when teachers are absent due to illness, the lack of substitutes also severely limits off-campus professional development opportunities for teachers and curtails field experiences for students.

The purpose of this note is to solicit your interest (or that of a friend or family member) in serving Northwestern as a substitute teacher. Our substitutes are paid a competitive wage - $115.00 per day. 

Northwestern substitutes are well-supported and always know what is expected of them. In addition, substitutes can often restrict their area of service if there are specific classes or levels that are of concern.

Who qualifies for substitute teaching?
A bachelor’s degree is normally required for daily substitutes. However, for educators who do not have a bachelor’s degree, a district can apply for a waiver using the following steps:

The district may submit an online application detailing the applicant’s experience with school-age children. Districts will receive an email confirmation with approval of the authorization.
  • A substitute permit can only be issued for the district in which the applicant is working.
  • Waivers are issued for one school year at a time and expire June 30. A new application must be submitted for review each year.
