Job brief
ACES at Helen Doron Academy is seeking a Preschool head teacher to lead our education program. The head teacher will work with staff, parents, and children ages 3-5 in a Spanish language immersion program where children learn academics in Spanish and English.
- Create a safe and nurturing environment where children can play and learn.
- Responsible for daily operations: organizing and implementing propriety
- Ensure all safety and security protocols are followed by staff.
- Work with staff and students to develop small and large group learning experiences that encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization and decision-making.
- Communicate regularly with parents, sharing childrens achievements through mobile apps and personal discussions.
- Purchase, build or rent props, furniture, set dressings or consumables for classroom curriculum, workshops, and classroom activities as assigned.
- Coordinate with classroom instructors to ensure all materials are prepared and available for daily operations.
- Evaluate costs and feasibility of materials, props, and resources.
- Support collegial staff in understanding the handling, management, and return of materials after their use in the classroom or in activities.
- Ability to interpret and build from sketches, photos, or video.
- Oversee prop and materials inventories and upkeep stock prop elements.
- Oversee the enforcement, compliance and permits for all Fire, Health and Safety matters.
- Oversee inventory including supplies/materials and classroom curricular props.
- Weekly walk through of classrooms and spaces to understand or anticipate the needs of instructors.
- Lead, motivate and inspire staff.
- Engage in on-going professional learning opportunities to remain current with early childhood research and best practices.
- Qualifications/Education Experience:
The ideal candidate will be bilingual in English and Spanish: Fluent in speaking, writing, and reading English and Spanish.
The ideal candidate will have:
A four (4) year college degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Development with at least 360 hours of documented supervised experience working with under the age of 6 years in a program also serving school-age children and at least one semester of student teaching with children under the age of 6 years.
Or
Child Development Associate (CDA)/Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education with at least 1,080 hours of documented supervised experience working with children in a program serving children under the age of 6 years and school aged children in over and not less than a nine month span of time

Child CPR and First Aid Certification (Preferred). - Head Teacher Certificate
- Must adhere to all CT State guidelines and ACES at Helen Doron policies and procedures regarding immunizations, physical exam, and required health and safety training such as CPR, First Aid, and Administration of Medications, as well as all Covid-19 related guidelines as revised due to pandemic conditions and response.
- Must have the physical ability to participate indoor and outdoor activities that may include lifting, moving or holding children from 20-60 pounds as well as walking, squatting, climbing and sitting on the floor.
- Must be able to maintain mental and physical alertness and respond quickly to emergency situations.
