POSITION:                Custodial Assignment (School Custodian/Groundskeeper)
                                   Hurlbutt Elementary School
                    
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge about building cleaning, minor maintenance and building security
  • Prior experience preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
Reports to:  Director of Facilities, School Principal, or Designee

Job Goal:   To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn and develop.

Performance Responsibilities:                  
  • Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times
  • Shovels, snow blows, and sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate
  • Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all are working properly during the hours of building occupancy
  • Vacuums, dust furniture, and empties waste baskets daily
  • Cleans corridors during the day when their condition requires it
  • Wet mops kitchen floors after lunch
  • Replaces light bulbs, as needed
  • Prepares areas and sets-up equipment for meetings, assemblies and chorus rehearsals
  • Maintains the lost and found
  • Unloads delivery trucks and moves the packages to their designated areas
  • Keeps the grounds free from rubbish
  • Contacts maintenance and grounds workers when their services are required
  • Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of
  • Reports major damage or repairs needed promptly to their supervisor
  • Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required
  • Assumes responsibility for the opening of the building each school day and determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off
  • Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, fuel on hand and requisitions of such needed replacements from the principal far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in their duties
  • Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste, and recycled materials
  • Maintains an appropriate supply of paper and soap products in all classrooms, offices, kitchens, and lavatories
  • Sets-up and clean cafeterias on a daily basis
  • Moves furniture, equipment and supplies within buildings as required for various activities as directed
  • Completes tasks assigned by the administration and/or their designee
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities of a Custodian as assigned
Terms of Employment and Compensation:
                       
Custodian work compensated of Grade IIa and benefits as established by the contract between the Weston Board of Education and Local 1303-110 of Council #4, AFSCME, AFL-CIO
