Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide support and counseling, as identified in the student’s IEP, to students in grades 6 through 12, who are enrolled in a therapeutic, public, day program.
  • Manage the intake process for all new students, including:
  • Scheduling initial PPT
  • Setting up and facilitating student/parent visits
  • Ensure all required student records are requested and obtained from sending districts
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the programs social/emotional/behavioral structure
  • Work with the administration to develop and implement a process for collecting, recording and reporting behavioral data for individual students and the program as a whole
  • Insure HS students have the appropriate course and credit configuration
  • Assist teachers with online learning program. 
The School Counselor works under the supervision of the Director of Special Education
  • Valid CT Certification:  School Counselor - 068
  • Masters preferred
  • At least three (3) years of experience with middle and high students, preferably in a therapeutic or behaviorally based program model
  • Experience in crisis intervention in school settings
  • Knowledge of Special Education law and processes
  • Knowledge of the PPT process
  • Regular and consistent attendance is considered an essential function of this position.
