Job Description:    Human Resources Generalist
Department: Talent Services
Position definition: This position is an integral member of the Talent Services team, with emphasis on employee and applicant assistance, database maintenance, and reporting.   Attentiveness to service quality, accuracy and timeliness is a critical attribute.
Supervision received: Receives overall direction from the Chief Operating Officer (COO) who outlines general policies, assigns duties and reviews work for conformance with standards.  Performs regular duties on own initiative, exercising a high degree of judgment and tact.
Examples of essential duties:
  • Supports recruitment efforts with job postings and application management
  • Tracks and ensures compliance with background investigation, state reporting and teacher certification requirements
  • Responsible for on-boarding and design and delivery of orientation programs
  • Utilizing the MUNIS software system, communicates to payroll all employee information pertaining to the processing of new employees, salary changes, transfers, updates etc.
  • Administers position control in the HR/Payroll system.
  • Assists employees with paperwork and use of Employee Self Service and timekeeping systems
  • Files and manages filing systems
  • Prepares, processes and tracks individual contracts and wage statements
  • Provides timely information to departments, including Technology and building administrators, regarding new hires, terminations, transfers, etc.
Develops and maintains employee databases, including but not limited to staff demographics, insurance enrollment, personal information, withholding elections, certification, transfers, seniority etc.
  • Manages performance evaluation software and ensures that evaluations are conducted on schedule
  • Supplements H.R Manager in benefits administration. Requisitions and processes payment of employer-paid benefits.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and follows through to enhance efficiency and departmental effectiveness
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications required:
  1. Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with relevant coursework
  2. Experience in Human Resources functions, preferably in a public school setting
  3. Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification preferred
  4. Working knowledge of employee benefits programs
  5. Basic understanding of payroll operations
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Outstanding customer service skills and eagerness to respond promptly to inquiries and the needs of internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to organize projects, prioritize workflow and complete multiple tasks simultaneously, quickly and accurately with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to acquire a proficiency in district software applications, and advanced knowledge of Microsoft office software i.e., word, Excel, Outlook, Power-point and internal software programs including MUNIS and Talent Ed.
  • Ability to write clear and concise business correspondence and instructions.
  • Must be able to resolve problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited precedent or standardization exists.
  • Demonstrates independent judgment, initiative and tact in dealing with staff and the public.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagrammatic or schedule form.
