Windermere Elementary School (PK-6)

The Ellington Board of Education invites interested candidates to apply for the position of Principal of Windermere Elementary School with a start date of July 1, 2019.

Demographics of School:

Windermere School is a PK-6 school that serves approximately 700 students.  The school enjoys a warm and supportive community of students, parents, and staff working together as a team. The school has approximately 100 certified and non-certified staff as well as an assistant principal.

Highlights of 2018-2019 School Improvement Plan:

Windermere School is committed to delivering high quality instruction for all students.  Windermere School monitors its progress using a variety of qualitative and quantitative measures including the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment, Bridges Math assessments, curriculum based assessments, performance on annual state testing and school climate data (including office referrals, student attendance, and other PBIS data). Windermere School provides interventions and resources to support all students with various abilities through SRBI, Applied Behavioral Analysis, as well as social emotional programming. Windermere School is also committed to promoting mindfulness and wellness as evidenced by the school’s Zen Zone and PBIS assemblies that promote positive student behavior.

In order to build upon the strengths and work with stakeholders to address challenges, the next Principal of Windermere School will possess the following leadership attributes, skill sets, and experience:
  • Experience as a classroom teacher and  administrator (with a preference for previous building principal experience)
  • Committed to visibility throughout the building
  • Prioritizes student, parent, and staff relationships
  • Distributive leadership style
  • Understands students’ individual needs must be supported based on their unique differences
  • Active support for Positive Behavioral Support programs (PBIS) and mindfulness
  • Comfortable engaging with parents, students, and staff in all settings and situations
  • Understands the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and looks at challenges as an opportunity to learn and grow
