Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Behavior Support
The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Behavior Support works collaboratively with central office and school staff to optimize operational efficiency in the implementation of board of education policy, and state and federal regulatory guidelines, related to support services delivery for students served in general education and special education programs. The Assistant Director must understand that quality teaching and learning are the essential processes and product of public schools and must have the ability to focus human and financial resources toward this goal. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Behavior Support must have knowledge of organization and management theory and practice. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Behavior Support must have knowledge and commitment to accountability for results that facilitate creative processes toward achievement of district goals, the ability to work and communicate effectively with people to focus resources toward the achievement of district goals, and the ability to facilitate group processes in consensus building, conflict resolution, planning and decision making. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Behavior Support will work collaboratively with the Social, Psychological and Behavioral Services team to lead school-based administrators, school staff, school Behavior Technologists and central office support staff in implementing a cohesive, district-wide system of behavior support. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Behavior Support will work collaboratively with the Social, Psychological and Behavioral Services team, central office support staff and school administrators to build the capacity of school Behavior Technologists and school teams to implement SRBI/MTSS, and facilitate problem solving related to student behavioral needs. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Behavior Support will work collaboratively with the Social, Psychological and Behavioral Services team, other central office support staff and school teams to cultivate a safe and civil school climate and culture by developing and establishing a spectrum of environmental and systemic supports and safeguards that improve learning conditions and behavioral outcomes for all students, address student’s social/emotional and behavioral needs, enhance student engagement and help students develop the adaptive skills essential to lifelong health and self-actualization. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Behavior Support will work closely with the Social Psychological and Behavioral Services team school-based administrators, school staff, school Behavior Technologists and central office support staff to implement effective, research-based practices that promote the predictability, safety and consistency needed to enhance student engagement, shape positive behaviors, and redirect and replace maladaptive behaviors. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Behavior Support will collaborate with school-based administrators to oversee the growth and development of school Behavior Technologists and monitor, supervise and evaluate their implementation of engagement strategies and positive behavioral supports within the Hartford Public Schools. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Behavior Support will plan and deliver specialized professional learning for school teams and school Behavior Technologists, incorporating adult learning theory, universal design for learning principles, culturally responsive teaching, and inclusive educational practices. 
 
Certification Requirements:
Connecticut Certification in Intermediate Administration/Supervision
Connecticut Certification in Special Education, Psychology, or Social Work
Certified CPI Trainer (may be acquired after hire)
