The Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) seeks a highly qualified, innovative leader to serve as Interim Assistant Principal of CREC's Academy of Aerospace and Engineering starting in November, 2018 and ending June 30th, 2019.  The Academy of Aerospace and Engineering offers industry partnerships, theme-based career pathways and a rigorous core curriculum for students Grades 6-12. Students identify and apply to competitive undergraduate programs that match their aptitudes, interests and goals. 
 
The candidate will work closely with and under the direction of the principal to:
 
Curriculum and Instruction
 
  • Provide leadership and direction in the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Oversee the implementation of effective instructional practices
  • Monitor curriculum development and design to ensure that adequate resources are available to meet instructional needs
  • Analyze assessment data and set goals with the principal and faculty for ongoing improvement
  • Develop and implement long range plans for curriculum, instructional evaluation, and school improvement
Accountability and Professional Development
  • Assist with interviews, selection, and orientation of new faculty
  • Reinforce expectations for faculty performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with parents
  • Confer with faculty regarding professional growth and work with faculty to develop and accomplish improvement goals
  • Plan and facilitate professional development opportunities

  • Promote collaboration and encourage innovative and progressive thinking
  • Encourage frequent communication between faculty, students, parents, and the community
  • Appropriately recognize and reward excellence and effectively address poor performance
  • Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts
Qualifications and key attributes:
  • Connecticut Intermediate Administrator Certification (092)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze and utilize data to drive instruction, operations and organizational decision-making
  • Experience working and collaborating within a diverse environment
  • Experience managing adults, including goal-setting, providing meaningful feedback and setting professional development plans
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and empower staff, recognize success and promote accountability
  • Ability and eagerness to champion the school's dual themes, building upon the current foundation to further enhance project based learning
  • Belief that all students can learn at a high level
  • Commitment to the vision, mission, values and goals of CREC Schools
