JOB DESCRIPTION
OVERVIEW:
Under the direction of the school principal, the per diem substitute teacher is responsible for supporting the school and the Diocese of Bridgeport in its mission. He/she is to maintain student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing diocesan approved curriculum and by supporting a safe and optimal learning environment in the absence of the classroom teacher.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to student learning.
- Possesses understanding of education by having knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
- Demonstrates effective instructional skills by appropriately following the lessons plans provided; achieves stated goals and objectives and follows school and diocesan curriculum objectives.
- Ensures effective and positive communication with students.
- Possesses skill in the use of computer technology and related educational technology.
- Establishes a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and positive self-image; sets high standards for student behavior and manages inappropriate behavior effectively as per school/diocesan policies.
- Cooperates with school administration; works effectively with all staff members to promote positive relationships with students and parents.
- Maintains confidentiality of information, displays sound judgment in professional dress and general behavior.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*:
- Practicing Roman Catholic, in good standing
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited college
- Minimum 3 years experience in working with children in a professional or volunteer position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in education or related discipline
- Valid State Teaching Certification in the appropriate grade level and/or subject
- Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level and/or subject
