Job Description:
Director of School Counseling - F/T position - 220 days starting January 2, 2019.  Job Goal: Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to maximize success for all students.
  • Possess CT certificates for Supervisor (092) and School Counseling (067)
  • Five years of successful F/T experience as a school counselor required.  Evidence of leadership experience preferred.
  • Must uphold the ethical and professional standards of professional school counseling practices and support and maintain the development of a school counseling program that is based on the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) National Model.
  • Knowledge of counseling theory and practice, public relations, school law, personnel management, administration, supervision, curriculum and education processes.
  • Possess leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with all stake holders.
  • Demonstrates skills in human relations, communications, problem solving and organization
Reports to: Superintendent of Schools/High School Principal
  • Participate as a member of the school leadership team, implementing the philosophy and goals of the school.
  • Develop and effectively communicate a vision, philosophy and goals for the school counseling department.
  • Lead the overall operation of all department activities, including department PLC and professional development.
  • Provide staff evaluation for certified and non-certified department members.
  • Plan, manage & supervise the grade reporting process.
  • Supervise UCONN on campus classes, ECE program, ECSU and MCC college courses.
  • Direct the course registration process.
  • Coordinate state & local assessments including NGSS, PSAT/SAT, AP.
  • Coordinate all aspects of "Student Success Plans" including but not limited to, use of Naviance (TM), NCAA Eligibility/48-H or other applicable software.
  • Promote and foster awareness and understanding of all courses.
  • Advocate for the elimination of barriers to promote equity and access to curriculum and programs.
  • Ensure that student academic program planning is provided to assist each student in selecting appropriate and challenging courses based upon their educational and career goals.
  • Oversee post secondary planning and process, including analysis of alumni participation.
  • Compile, generate and interpret student achievement data.
  • Oversee submission of state reports.
  • Facilitate transitions for incoming students from multiple sending school districts.
  • Develop, oversee and manage school counseling department budget.
  • Oversee 504 program facilitators.
  • Supervises the maintenance of student records and reports.
  • Inform staff, parents and students of the availability of school counseling services and procedures.
  • Carry out other department and counseling related functions as assigned by the building principal.
