Job Description:
Regional School District 14 (Bethlehem/Woodbury) announces the following administrative vacancy:

POSITION:   Director of Student Services

START DATE:         January 2019

CT SDE 092 Certification or
CT SDE Special Education or Special Service Endorsement
Prior Student Services Leadership experience preferred

Primary Function:   
The Director of Student Services has overall responsibility for the planning and development of specialized instruction and programs for students ages 3-21 including professional development of special education and pupil services Pre-K – 21, supervising the ELL program, serving as Safe School Climate Coordinator, 504 Coordinator, writing and monitoring implementation of grants for special education.  The Director ensures that all programs are in compliance with state and federal mandates and regulations and best practices.

All Certified and Non-Certified Special Education Personnel

According to collective bargaining agreement

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for supervision of all department personnel
• Maintains open lines of communication with district administrators in monitoring special services staff, programs and services; i.e., department goals and objectives, transportation, space requirements, student caseloads, and staff performance
• Provides leadership for programming and curriculum for all special education services
• Prepares the annual budget for the department and assists in the preparation of State reimbursements
• Informs the business office of all financial obligations incurred through the department
• Develops proposals and monitors special education state and federal grants
• Responsible for special education transportation
• Acts as liaison to the State Department of Education for special service programs
• Interviews candidates and makes recommendations for hiring of new staff
• Informs all administrative staff of current and proposed legislation for special education, confidentiality of records, evaluation of special education programs and expenditures, and due process proceedings and ensures that special education mandates are implemented
• Conducts staff meetings on a regular basis
• Provides leadership for staff development and instructional improvement programs
• Maintains professional competency by attending meetings of professional organizations and conferences, serving on school and district committees, and keeping abreast of current educational literature
• Acts as a catalyst for innovative thinking, including evaluation of existing programs and development of new programs
• Collaborates with district leaders to coordinate crisis intervention district wide
• Performs additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification
