Job Description:
The Connecticut Center for Child Development is currently seeking a full-time, non-exempt, Life Skill Instructor to work in our Applied Behavior Analytic Adult Day Program with individuals on the autism spectrum.  This position reports to the Director of the program.  The work hours are typically scheduled for Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Physical Requirements:
  • Life Skills Instructor must be able to meet the minimum daily physical requirements of:
  • Daily cleaning and maintenance activities which require bending, twisting, climbing ladders and extending.
  • Lift, carry and move quickly when assisting in PMT implementations in which to protect consumers and co-workers.
  • Bend and lift at least a minimum of 25lbs. on an individual and daily basis.
 Education/Certification Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certified required
  • Current Medication Administration Certified through Department of Developmental Services is a plus
  • Weekly swimming at the local pool with consumers
  • Driving consumers daily to and from community outings, volunteers’ sites, leisure activities.  Must have clean driving record.
  • Previous experience working with adults with autism preferred
  • Training in ABA and Autism
  1. Implement treatment strategies (skill acquisition and behavior intervention) as developed by the Program Director, Case Managers, and behavior analytic personnel per the daily schedules of staff rotations 
  2. Data Sheet Development
    1. Monitor data sheets and immediately report concerns/changes in behavior to Program Director, Clinical Director, Case Manager and/or BCBA
    2. Data sheets are available daily
    3. Revised data sheets are ready on the day of new data collection
  3. Curriculum Materials
    1. Materials are collected or made within 2-3 days of discussion with supervisors. 
  4. Provide supervision/teaching to consumers in the community
  5. Teach daily living and recreation/leisure skills
  6. Participate in the planning and organization of center based activities
  7. Immediately report concerns and/or changes in behavior to program Director, case manager and behavior analytic staff
  8. Check student backpacks at arrival; disseminate any parent communication to appropriate people
  9. Maintain the tidiness of work area and common areas
  10. Ensure consumers  safety and health
    1. Obtain Physical Management Training certification (PMT)
  11. Participate in staff development  (e.g., attend training on Staff Development Days, attend CCCD lecture series, attend and participate in clinical-development meetings, attend professional conferences, read material provided by director and behavior analytic staff, participate in training during meetings.
  12. Demonstrate professional behavior with consumers, colleagues, parents, visitors
    1. Adhere to CCCD Employee Handbook for appropriate professional conduct
  13. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
