Position Title: Physical Education & Health Teacher (Grades 1–12+)
Location: Ben Bronz Academy, West Hartford, CT; Moving to East Hartford for the 2026-2027 school year
Position Type: Full-Time, 10-Month

Position Overview:
Ben Bronz Academy is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Physical Education and Health Teacher to provide engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction for students in grades 1–12+. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of diverse learning needs and create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes physical wellness, health literacy, and social-emotional growth.

Position Overview:
Ben Bronz Academy is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Physical Education and Health Teacher to provide engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction for students in grades 1–12+. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of diverse learning needs and create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes physical wellness, health literacy, and social-emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver differentiated Physical Education and Health instruction aligned with Connecticut state standards
- Adapt curriculum, instruction, and assessments to meet the individualized needs of students with learning differences
- Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong healthy habits
- Incorporate social-emotional learning, self-regulation strategies, and executive functioning supports into instruction
- Maintain a safe and structured environment in gymnasium and outdoor settings
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of performance and participation
- Collaborate with special education staff, related service providers, and classroom teachers to support student goals
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of student goals when appropriate
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress
- Supervise students during assigned duties and school activities
- Participate in professional development and contribute to the school community
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Valid Connecticut teaching certification in Physical Education (043) and/or Health (043/044 preferred)
- Experience working with students with learning differences and/or special education populations preferred
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction, executive functioning strategies, and trauma-informed practices
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a special education setting
- Familiarity with IEP development and implementation
- Training in adaptive physical education or inclusive practices
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
