POSITION TITLE: CUSTODIAN
DEPARTMENT: CUSTODIAL - Chippens Hill Middle School
REPORTS TO: SITE SUPERVISOR
SUMMARY: Maintains the district's school buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they represent no problems or
interruptions to the educational program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.- Assist in maintaining seasonal grounds work (snow, lawn).
- Clean and preserve designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the building.
- Restock disposable items and provides head custodian with inventory usage and data.
- Assist visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment.
- Maintain building and grounds security in the building each school day.
- Working knowledge of the care of custodian machinery and equipment.
- Knowledge and ability to perform minor building repair work.
- Ability to substitute for head custodian on a short term basis.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Assist in cleaning boilers.
- Perform related work as required by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM EACH ESSENTIAL DUTY SATISFACTORILY. THE REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND/OR ABILITY REQUIRED. REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS MAY BE MADE TO ENABLE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups and other employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education Policies.
