Our district has an opening for an Elementary Physical Education Teacher who will work under the direction of the school Principal to provide an exceptional and nurturing learning environment where students feel safe, valued and respected. On a daily basis the teacher will plan for and deliver physical education activities and instruction, continually assess student progress and growth, provide ongoing student supervision, regularly share written and verbal feedback with students and families, maintain records of student performance, and continually seek to develop professionally to bring the most current and innovative learning practices to students.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan, create and deliver daily lesson plans emphasizing sports-related skills, movement patterns, games and fitness activities;
- Establish and enforce student rules of conduct focused on the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students;
- Introduce elements of strength, endurance and flexibility into physical education teaching and activities;
- Provide instruction using a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and varying needs/interests;
- Prepare equipment and materials for physical education activities;
- Observe, assess and communicate student progress (academic, behavioral, social, physical);
- Manage student behavior and employ positive behavior practices to drive culture/climate;
- Ensure individual well-being and safety is incorporated into teaching and activities;
- Foster positive student attitudes toward physical activity and fitness;
- Support continuous growth and improvement in student physical fitness assessments at the school, state and national levels, as requested;
- Actively participate in wide variety of school day and extracurricular events as planned, including activities centered around professional development;
- Facilitation of a school-wide Field Day event;
- Plan enrichment activities for small groups of students each day;
- Responsibly fulfill additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree;
- Current Connecticut Teacher Elementary Certification (044 – Physical Education, Pre-K to 12);
- Prior experience working with elementary students is preferred;
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work cooperatively with other colleagues in the building and throughout the school district;
- Ability to handle and treat information confidentially;
- Ability to relate effectively with staff, parents, students and the public;
- Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities;
- Ability to work independently and professionally;
- Ability to motivate students, inspire trust and confidence in students, while working with patience and understanding.
