Job Title: Paraeducator, Department of Special Services
Reports To: Director of Special Services in collaboration with Building Principals
Job Goal:
To assist in creating a motivating educational environment where students are encouraged to learn. Works as part of an inclusionary team with teachers and related service personnel to help design, implement, and evaluate program activities. Supports student learning and performance while following district, state, and federal guidelines.
Qualifications:
May require crouching, kneeling, or sitting at floor level. Must occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. and push/pull up to 100 lbs. Exposure to medical risks higher than average.
Duties:
Responsibilities apply across preschool–12th grade, including community-based and medically fragile programs. Assignments vary by student and district needs.

- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, and algebra/geometry.
- Reasoning skills to follow instructions and problem-solve.
- Ability to assist with one-on-one/small group instruction, classroom management, and assessment strategies.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Operate classroom technology and assistive devices.
- Perform routine clerical tasks.
- Implement small group or individualized activities.
- Reinforce or re-teach concepts.
- Support students with transitions.
- Administer tests as directed.
- Observe and record student progress.
- Correct and record assignments and assessments.
- Provide feedback to teachers/providers.
- Communicate with parents when directed.
- Abide by district policies and maintain confidentiality.
- Model composure and professional behavior.
- Maintain attendance and punctuality.
- Accept changes in work assignments.

Pay and Benefits:
- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
- Pay: In accordance with the North Stonington Paraeducator Contract, based on step and experience.
- Benefits: Eligible as outlined in the Paraeducator Contract.
