Job Description:
Ledyard Public Schools is seeking an Elementary Physical Education Teacher beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the successful candidate will create a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise. This is to fill an anticipated vacancy.
Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates methods that support the physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development of children
• Creates appropriate physical education instruction adaptation for learners of different abilities
• Recognizes individual group behaviors and motivations so as to create a safe learning environment
• Creates a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction and self-motivation
• Understands effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques to enhance learning and encourage engagement
• Plans and implements developmentally appropriate instructional strategies based on national and/or state standards

Qualifications:

• Physical Education certification (044)
• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
• Master’s Degree in related area preferred
• Successful prior physical education teaching experience is a plus
   

Additional Duties:

• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Salary and Benefits:

• Per the Ledyard Education Association agreement

Physical Requirements:

• Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds overhead at times
• Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child
