TEACHER - AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) - 1.0 FTE
Position Summary

Milford Public Schools is searching for a dynamic ASL teacher beginning in August 2025. This teacher will engage middle school students in American Sign Language learning with a proficiency-based approach to language instruction and a focus on high-quality instruction.

Responsibilities
  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the district
  • Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment
  • Design and implement lessons aligned with the MPS Model for High Quality instruction and use assessments to refine curriculum and instructional practices
  • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner
  • Assist in the development of curriculum guides and collaborate on the selection of relevant resources and other educational materials to support the development of the MPS ASL program
  • Participate in professional learning to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement


Knowledge/Skills
  • Experience with teaching in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills

Qualifications
  • CT State Certification, or certifiability, in Hard of Hearing, Grades PreK-12 (#057), and/or Other World Language, Grades 7-12 (#024) preferred
  • Fluency in English and American Sign Language required
  • Professional experience in ASL and/or working with the deaf or hard of hearing students preferred
