Job Description:
Position Purpose: The Health Care Coordinator/Nurse Leader will manage the district's school health program and school nurses. They will provide leadership within the school district, coordinate the clinical aspects of the comprehensive school health program, and collaborate with other members of the health services and health education team. The Health Care Coordinator will act as liaison to outside agencies and organizations related to school nursing services.
Compensation & Benefits: EWPS offers an exceptional benefits package, including paid time off, participation in the Town of East WIndsor sponsored retirement plan, and a percentage cost share for premium health, vision and dental insurance plans. The salary range for the Health Care Coordinator is $70,000 to $80,000 annually
Work Hours: The work day for the Health Care Coordinator is days, 7 or 7:30 to 3 or 3:30 PM, but must allow for flexibility to meet staffing coverage and student needs. This position is based out of East Windsor High School, and travel between all locations in the district will be required.
Essential Functions: Follows Connecticut General Statutes to ensure the earliest and safest entry into school of all eligible children, using advanced planning to ensure appropriate management of potential physiological or psychological emergencies, preps personnel, the environment, and other protections necessary to prevent deterioration of the students health while in school; Generates surveys, questionnaires and other tools used in the collection of data related to mandatory and necessary reporting, and uses available student demographics and school system data to identify the health needs of the student population; Participates in interdisciplinary planning in each school building related to identifying student needs and coordinating care; Interviews, recommends, places, and orients qualified personnel to implement the school health program; Collaborates with the school physician, health service staff, and administration to develop and implement written policies and procedures for the clinical services and programs addressing health issues; Develops, implements, and reviews documentation systems at the student, school and district level; Provides clinical consultation to school nurses, health education staff, physical education staff, and other administrative/teaching staff as needed; Participates in interdisciplinary teams meetings on issues such as attendance, crisis and safety, all hazards plan, emergency athletic plan, wellness programs and policy and ensures integrated systems are in place to comprehensively address the health needs of the student population; Follows current guidelines concerning communicable diseases, universal precautions, blood borne pathogens, hazardous medical waste and implements applicable guidelines throughout the district; Participates in the development, implementation, and communication of the district emergency plan and coordinates with community emergency care procedures; Provides community resources and referral mechanisms for a range of child and adolescent health needs; Monitors trends in health services programs and health education while modifying school programs as needed; Prepares and monitors the health services budget in coordination with the Director of School Finance; seeks opportunities for outside funding; Coordinates and provides CPR, administration of Epi Pens, and medication administration training to district staff; Arranges substitute nurse coverage, 1:1 nurses and nurse coverage for field trips; Coordinates annual flu shot immunization program for staff; Compiles statistical reports as required by the school system and state agencies; Uses the “Principles of Effective Nursing” evaluation tool to evaluate all nursing staff annually; Implements an ongoing continuing education program for staff and others as necessary
Equipment: Uses medical equipment to provide health care to students/staff,. Uses personal computers andis comfortable with the Google suite inclding Doc, Sheets, etc.
Qualifications: Must have a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Connecticut. Poses a minimum of a bachelor in nursing from an accredited nursing program. A minimum of 5 years professional experience in school nursing. Supervisory experience and experience in providing professional development preferred. Meets all continuing education requirements for Registered Nurses and as a Nationally Certified School Nurse. Maintain certification as an instructor in CPR, First Aid and AED.
