SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
OFFICE OF SPECIALIZED INSTRUCTION
STEP/SALARY: MA - 6TH YEAR / $53,432.00- $102,758.00*
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide culturally competent speech language and hearing services to students across pre-k, elementary, and secondary grade levels exhibiting a full range of communication disorders including those involving language, hearing, articulation/speech sound disorders, fluency, voice/resonance and swallowing.
  • Provide early intervening services/ SRBI through collaborative activities with educators, families, parents and community to eliminate or inhibit the onset and development of communication disorders by minimizing risks and exposure.
  • Conducts thorough appropriate, and balanced speech, language, and or/communication evaluations using a comprehensive assessment plan that incorporates standardized and non-standardized procedures and tools.
  • Interprets data to determine the nature and severity of a student's communication disorder, delay, or difference and its effect on academic and social performance.
  • Participate in the Planning and Placement Team/SRBI process of identifying students who may need assessments to determine a continuum of intervention strategies and/or eligibility for special education or related services.
  • Works collaboratively with support personnel to design and implement evidence-based intervention practices that are appropriate to age and learning needs of each individual student.
  • Work collaboratively teachers, specialists, and administrators to configure school wide programs that employ a continuum of dynamic service delivery models in the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities and students at risk for academic failure as appropriate.
  • Work effectively and collegially with various constituencies within the schools and the communities at large to help students meet the state and district performance standards.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and data collection systems that provide records of service implementation, progress reports, parent teacher conferences, planning and placement team/SRBI meetings.
  • Maintain compliance of federal, state and district mandates as it relates to the development and maintenance of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) Medicaid billing, report writing, treatment plans/ therapy log development.
  • Keep abreast of changes in education and speech language pathology by maintaining continuing education or professional development units sufficient to meet ASHA requirements for certification maintenance, state certification and licensure requirements.
  • Promotes positive learning professional relationships through open communication honesty and respect.
  • Models good attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Speech Language Hearing Services.
 REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Connecticut licensure and certification as a Speech Language Pathologist (061). ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence preferred but not required.
  • Preferred - demonstrated understanding of the urban school setting.
  • Superior oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer technology.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

*This position is in accordance with the Agreement between the Bridgeport Education Association (BEA) and the Bridgeport Board of Education. The salary will follow the contract and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
