Job Summary:
The Lead Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) provides clinical supervision to COTA’s in the Learning Centers and Transitional Academy, as well as guidance and direction to the Floating Occupational therapist. In addition, the Lead OTR/L will offer focused, individualized educational and clinical programming at the needed locations.
This is an exempt position, 40 hours a week that may require some weekend and evening work. The Lead Occupational Therapist reports directly to the assigned Director of Education. The Lead OTR/L will work in collaboration with the Directors of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct OT screens and appropriate evaluations, interpret evaluation information, prepare written reports with recommendations, and complete treatment planning for students.
- Supervise and evaluate Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and Floating occupational therapist to facilitate Occupational Therapy (OT) treatment in a safe, therapeutic, and effective manner.
- Design and follow an individualized Supervision Plan for each COTA in accordance with AOTA guidelines including direct and indirect supervision strategies.
- Meet with COTA’s on a monthly basis to review evaluation results, goals, objectives, and intervention plans for each student.
- Supervise OT or COTA students, as assigned, while they are completing fieldwork experiences as assigned.
- Assess the OT department for program development and make recommendations to the Supervisors.
- Review and edit all OT educational reports completed by COTAs.
- Provide education and feedback on all COTA documentation as required.
- Attend and participate in all educational meetings, as needed, including but not limited to, PPT’s, certified staff meetings, and informal team meetings.
- Follow all ethical and professional guidelines put forth by the agency, the AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association, National Board of Certified Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and state of CT licensure board.
- Meet biweekly with supervisors for general supervision, program development, and COTA staff educational needs, as recommended by the AOTA, NBCOT, and State of CT licensure board.
- Review inventory and order necessary equipment for serving the young people.
- Complete clinical and administrative duties as required, including billing and Medicaid.
- Facilitate training in Dysphagia and Medical Lecture in coordination with the Training Academy as needed
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisors.
- Meets with vice president for education and/or Executive vice President on an as needed basis.
- Education and/or work experience specific to youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), having focused on sensory processing and self-regulation, is strongly preferred.
- Experience supervising COTA’s and OT students in the educational community.
- The Lead OTR/L is expected to maintain CT licensure, NBCOT certification, personal malpractice insurance, and complete agency required training.
- You must have a valid driver’s license with an excellent driving history and have the willingness to abide by all agency policies and procedures.
- Ädelbrook requires health screenings including a drug screen, as well as DCF, DMV, and criminal history checks, which will be conducted at the agency’s expense, in order to be considered for this position.
