Job Title:  Elementary School Teacher
Reports To:  Building Principal
Location:  Momauguin Elementary School
 
Education:  CT Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education Education (Endorsement 013); BA (preferred MA) from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or equivalent.     

Experience:
  • Two or more years of teaching experience at elementary level;
  • Thorough knowledge of current research and effective practices of teaching;
  • Clear understanding of standards-based and differentiated instruction;
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze assessments and other student data as a means for making instructional decisions;
  • Possess strong collaborative capabilities and proven ability to work as a member of a team;
  • Knowledge of philosophies and objectives regarding cultural responsiveness;
  • Strong background in literacy;
  • Bilingual (Spanish-speaking preferred).
 
Minimum Qualifications/Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
  • Implement curriculum based upon the CT Common Core for ELA and Mathematics.
  • Implement curriculum based upon national and state standards for Science and Social Studies.
  • Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturities.
  • Designs and implements a classroom environment that supports current learning activities and is appropriate to the interests and maturity of the students.
  • Demonstrates consistent planning for classes assigned and provides written evidence of such planning.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. 
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure. Maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Directs the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes objectives for all lessons, units and projects.
  • Uses appropriate instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the abilities of the students.
  • Plans, manages, and supervises the activities of instructional aids and volunteers.
  • Promotes a strong foundation in language development and acquisition.
  • Assists children in developing behavioral and social skill competencies.
  • Recognizes the learning disabilities of students and refers them to the appropriate school system specialists.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the school system and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends staff meeting and serves on committees as required.
  • Uses appropriate means for assessing the progress of students on a regular basis.
  • In conjunction with peers and supervisors, participates in the updating of the curriculum.  

Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
