The School Social Worker is responsible for providing direct social work services to students.
Relationship within the Organization
The School Social worker is responsible to the Student Support Services Administration.
Responsibilities
The School Social Worker shall:
- Provide proactive interventions for students in consult with teachers and other service providers.
- Provide direct social work services through individual, small group and classroom strategies, which focus on understanding and eliminating problem areas, building on students’ strengths.
- Team with staff in designing, monitoring and implementing behavioral management techniques and behavioral intervention strategies.
- Team with staff in developing and/or implementing student crisis intervention plans.
- Provide ongoing communication to LEA and other agency contact persons, to other clinicians and to parents.
- Review referral materials for assigned students being considered for program placement and serve on clinical teams.
- Conduct pre and post assessments to create and implement functional behavior plans.
- Assist in developing classroom strategies for students.
- Consult and collaborate with other school personnel.
- Serve as a liaison among students, families, agencies and the school program.
- Write, review, complete and implement student relevant and clinical component I.E.P. documents.
- Provide training for staff in clinical topics related to student special needs.
- Perform other tasks as appropriately assigned by the Student Support Services Administration.
Experience, Knowledge, and Training
Education & Certification
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
- Certification as a School Social Worker.
- Experience providing clinical services in school and home settings.
- Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and/or intensive social-emotional support structures.
- Ability to lift and/or restrain students weighing 50 lbs or more, as needed.
