Custodian at Shepaug Valley School (2nd shift 2:30pm - 10:30pm)
Job Summary: Under the direction of a supervisor, the custodian is responsible for the care, cleaning and maintenance of the district buildings and grounds to provide a pleasant, secure and safe working and learning environment for employees, students, families and visitors to Region 12 District Schools.

Custodian at Shepaug Valley School (2nd shift 2:30pm - 10:30pm)
Job Summary: Under the direction of a supervisor, the custodian is responsible for the care, cleaning and maintenance of the district buildings and grounds to provide a pleasant, secure and safe working and learning environment for employees, students, families and visitors to Region 12 District Schools.
Qualification:
- Prior custodial experience preferred
- Regular and consistent attendance is mandatory for this position
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance, own reliable transportation, and be able to travel as required
- Must have flexibility to work early, late or on weekends, with short notice
- Knowledge of green cleaning procedures, general cleaning procedures, disinfecting and sanitizing in a school environment
- Knowledge in use of mechanized cleaning equipment or the ability to be trained to use
- Knowledge of general building operations that allow the candidate to function in emergency situations which may include: fire alarm systems, well pump systems, boiler systems, HVAC systems, electrical shut offs
- Ability to use small hand tools for making minor repairs if necessary
- Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions
- Ability to work independently, in the course of normal school activities
- Ability to establish priorities for workload based on need for immediate action, work objectives and work schedule
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and follow through to complete tasks and obligations in a timely manner
- Ability to shovel snow, chop ice, use a snow blower, sand and salt walks and stairs. Provide communication regarding facility conditions to other custodial staff and the Director of Facilities during storm situations
- Ability to communicate effectively with the Principal, front office secretary, outside contractors, community members and organizations for facility use for outside events
- Ability to use email and electronic correspondence
