Reports To: Senior Operations Manager
Location: St. Mark Catholic School, Stratford, CT
FLSA Status: Salaried, Full Time
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
The School Counselor role delivers services across Diocese of Bridgeport schools, providing a range of services to students who need additional academic, social and emotional support. As a key member of the support team, the School Counselor partners with school administrators and teachers to develop and implement plans that provide specialized support for students in need throughout the course of the school year and is passionate about helping every student flourish. All services are provided in a ministerial capacity and in accordance with the Catholic faith.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students
- Assess student needs and develop personalized counseling plans
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to address student concerns
- Conduct behavioral health assessments and provide appropriate interventions
- Assist students in developing effective coping strategies and problem-solving skills
- Support students with special education needs by providing counseling services and referring students for Special Education Testing through LEA’s, in collaboration with the academic team
- Promote cultural diversity awareness and provide counseling for diverse student populations
- Maintain accurate case files and reports to track student issues and progress
- Educate students on topics such as conflict management, social skills, and virtue education through implementation of the Educations in Virtue curriculum
- Collaborate with community resources to support child welfare and well-being of students
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Bachelor’s Degree in School Counseling, Family Therapy, Social Work or other related fields required
- Minimum two years’ experience providing Counseling services to students in an educational setting
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques
- Compassionate and approachable personality
- Strong sense of direction, communication, professionalism, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and handle details of confidential nature
- Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner requiring minimal oversight
- Ability to efficiently organize work, work under pressure and effectively manage multiple priorities
- Excellent writing, proofing and editing skills
- Solid problem solving and time management skills
- Excellent communications skills by phone and in person
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact and collaborate with diverse groups of people
- Conscientious and highly organized with sharp attention to detail
- A strong work ethic and desire to exceed expectations
- Ability to work required schedule
- Ability to travel between schools with a valid driver’s license
- Active member of a parish/faith community in good standing with the Church
