Job Description:
Ledyard Public Schools is seeking a dynamic, passionate Literacy Teacher / Interventionist who is committed to building a love of reading and writing in all students.  As a Literacy Teacher / Interventionist, you will design and implement research-based methods of instruction to help students build a strong literacy foundation. 
The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the District Language Arts Coordinator and Administrators to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills. This is to fill an anticipated vacancy beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.
Qualifications: 
  • Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals
  • Ability to promote positive self-concept in each student; provide encouragement to each student to develop his or her full potential
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and excellence in teaching literacy skills
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and learning
  • Promotes a positive learning environment responsive to and respectful of the needs of students
  • Understands social and emotional adjustments of students
  • Successful elementary teaching and/or literacy experience preferred
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population
Responsibilities:
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver direct instruction to students who are in a tiered intervention 
  • Participate in MTSS process
  • Create and examine data to measure the success of literacy instruction 
  • Assist in school-wide efforts to improve literacy instruction  
  • Keep inventory of materials, equipment and supplies 
  • Maintain contact with parents, school personnel as needed to evaluate students' academic and social growth
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with a variety of stakeholders, including students, their parents and staff
  • Implement current theory, research and best practices in language arts and literacy development by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings
Additional Duties:
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Required:
  • Bachelors degree
  • CT teaching certification (097,102, or 265)
Pay and Benefits:  Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child
