General Statement:
The Middle School Technology and Innovation Teacher understands growth and development, empowers students to actively learn about technology through a variety of digital tools and other materials and resources while applying the principles of Digital Citizenship, and plans instruction to achieve selected objectives. The Middle School Technology and Innovation Teacher accomplishes these objectives through effective communication with students, parents and colleagues, and through the use of appropriate techniques and materials in a positive climate. In addition, the Middle School Technology and Innovation Teacher will effectively implement the ISTE standards for educators. Computer science principles, coding, design thinking processes, and use of 3D printers and maker spaces will be part of the curriculum.

Major Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development as it relates to teaching and learning.
- Plans instruction to achieve selected objectives.
- Effectively implements instructional plans and uses appropriate instructional techniques.
- Uses current and innovative technology to promote student learning, creativity, communication, and collaboration.
- Motivates students to think critically and to explore concepts through a variety of hands-on and inquiry-based lessons.
- Empowers students to explore a concept by asking questions and doing research to understand and solve real-world problems incorporating a creative problem solving and design thinking process.
- Empowers students to create authentic artifacts through technology such as 3D printing
- Effectively communicates with students.
- Enables students to take ownership of their own learning.
- Effectively organizes time, space, materials and equipment for instruction.
- Effectively assesses student needs and progress.
- Effectively meets the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities and English Learners.
- Establishes a positive learning environment.
- Encourages and maintains the cooperative involvement and support of parents and the community.
- Meets professional responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned by the school principal.
Qualifications:
- Connecticut State Department of Education teaching certification for middle school level (Grade 6-8) in any subject area.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable Common Core State Standards and Technology/ISTE standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of using, modeling and teaching with technology.
- Must be willing to be trained and acquire the skills to work effectively with all aspects of technology curriculum.
- Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers and paraeducators.
- Evidence of organizational ability and willingness to pursue tasks to successful completion.
- Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, Power School); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.
