Job Description:
Teacher Assistant in Special Education Program
1. Provide support to a lead teacher in charge of a classroom or program.
2. Reinforce or design lessons by tutoring students or small groups
3. Lesson planning, documenting progress and overseeing lesson preparation.
4. Creating data collection systems and monitoring progress
5. Will provide coverage for any teacher or paraprofessional absence across intensive programs
6. Training newly hired paraprofessionals and collaborate with BCBA and special education teachers for training needs.
7. Support general education teachers with non identified students requiring Tier 2 or Tier 3 behavioral support
8. Assist in report writing with special education staff, BCBA, school psychologist
9. Strong technology skills
10. Flexible and collaborate with multiple parties
11. Demonstrate leadership skills during collaboration.
12. PMT trained and active participation in restraint and seclusion protocols
13. Acceptance and participation in intense de-escalation procedures (verbal and physical aggression)
14. Mental and physical ability to sustain for long periods of time in an intense behavioral episode.
15. Strong ability for data collection
16. Comprehensive knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis
17. Initiative for curriculum development and planning
18. Flexibility with programming schedule due to instructors response to behavioral needs
19. Create curriculum material design to meet students individual needs
20. Knowledge of supplemental special education programs
21. Collaborate with special education team to assess and evaluate students
22. Oversee de-escalation and knowledge of de-escalation strategies
23. In the event of a behavioral response or teacher absence, assume responsibility of lead teacher
24. Ability to emotionally process and manage intense behaviors on a daily basis
25. Willingness to support ADL skills
26. Knowledge and understanding of ASD and emotional disabilities
27. Knowledge of social thinking and social skills instruction
28. Ability to generalize skills and manage student behavior collaborating with general education teachers across school settings.
29. Ability to collaborate and be an active team member
30. Coaching in a variety of environments
Minimum Requirements:
Associate’s (with Parapro Assessment) or Bachelor’s Degree
Salary:
$21.64-$24.85/hour
