Job Description:
Notre Dame High School is searching for a passionate and engaging teacher to join our faculty in the Modern and Classical Languages department. To be a successful teacher in this position, the candidate must have a strong background in the teaching of Spanish as a second language, have an understanding of how students learn, be able to create effective assessments and provide actionable feedback.

Notre Dame High School is searching for a passionate and engaging teacher to join our faculty in the Modern and Classical Languages department. To be a successful teacher in this position, the candidate must have a strong background in the teaching of Spanish as a second language, have an understanding of how students learn, be able to create effective assessments and provide actionable feedback.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach 5 periods in a rotating 7 period schedule
- Be a teacher advisor for approximately 15 students
- Working hours are 7:50 am to 3:00 pm
- Design lessons for each course taught that are engaging, student-centered, and focused on developing transferable skills such as writing, critical thinking, and presenting to peers
- Understands the World Readiness Standards For World Languages. Will also incorporate the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines which describe what our students will be able to do in real-world situations
- Design effective formative and summative assessments that measure student learning and that provide students with actionable feedback leading to growth
- Work with students on developing resilience and effective organizational skills
- Teach courses at all levels of ability and have the willingness to teach courses in-field not previously taught
- Provide a representative number of assessments and grades so that students and family have an understanding of their performance
- Contact parents of underperforming students or where there is concern for their learning
- Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and complying with departmental and administrative protocols
- Collaborate with the Academic Center and be aware of students with 504s and IEPs and make sure their accommodations are met.
- Collaborate with members of the department on improvement goals
- Perform other duties, such as class coverages, attend department and faculty meetings
- Arrive to school, classes, and school events on time and with a professional demeanor
- Attend school events such as graduation, parent conferences, and open houses organized by the office of admission
- Be a good representative of the school in and outside of the building and attend events such as plays, athletic competitions, and other extracurricular and cocurricular activities
- Be mindful of posting on social media as employees of the school are its best representatives
Qualifications
- Must have at least an undergraduate college degree in the field from an accredited institution. Advanced degree is preferable but not required
- 2-5 years of teaching experience is preferred
- Encourages students to be global citizens linguistically and culturally. Aims to develop their comprehension and speaking skills, and to develop ease and confidence in reading and writing skills. Introduces them to the joy of learning a language.
- Possesses the ability to engage students and to build rapport
- Possess effective written and verbal communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents
- Demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members with a continuous focus on healthy relationship- building
- Demonstrates an understanding of teaching in a faith-based environment where developing the heart is as important as developing the mind
- Knowledgeable and competent in delivering content to students with diverse learning styles
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Has a working knowledge of Google Suite
