Position: School Social Worker Location: Har-Bur Middle School Reports To: Building Administrator
Starting Date: ASAP
Qualifications
I. Planning and Organization
The School Social Worker uses appropriate materials in planning services for students. After student needs are identified, the School Social Worker develops instructional and/or behavioral objectives. Methodologies and materials are selected to meet those objectives. Procedures are developed and followed along with maintaining appropriate records.
II. Assessment
The School Social Worker uses formal and informal measures to assess the student’s level of functioning. The School Social Worker documents and reports assessment results clearly, following the standards of the profession. The data collected is used to formulate recommendations and establish goals and objective to improve student outcomes within the school setting. Student progress is documented and regularly monitored.
III. Service Delivery
The School Social Worker adheres to the foundations and best practice of Connecticut and national standards and principles. The School Social Worker utilizes knowledge of child and adolescent growth and development while conducting learning activities in a manner which is flexible and developmentally appropriate. The activities are presented at a level appropriate to the needs, abilities, and learning styles of the students through a variety of resources, and materials, and methodologies. The focus is to remove academic and nonacademic barriers to learning by coordinating with parents, school personnel, and community resources.
IV. Management of Student’s Environment
The School Social Worker encourages quality staff to student interaction within the school setting. The School Social Worker promulgates and maintains appropriate standards of behavior, so as to facilitate the social-emotional and academic competencies of all students. The School Social Worker establishes rapport and fosters positive reinforcement through the staff, family, and community. He/she works to promote an atmosphere that fosters sensitivity and respect for the needs of all students, while enhancing growth and development.

Qualifications
- Appropriate certification and licensure required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Contribute to a positive school climate
- Ability to provide high quality professional services and sound practice to the whole school community in accordance with Connecticut Practice Guidelines for Delivery of School Social Work Services
- Experience working with children and adolescents with a variety of learning, behavioral, and social challenges including emotional disturbance, autism, intellectual disabilities, high functioning autism, and/or school refusal
- Ability to provide a variety of intervention approaches across the mental health spectrum, including psychosis
- Specialty in a treatment area (preferred)
- Ability to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and make appropriate changes in response to that data
- Work proactively and collaboratively with team members for individual student and whole-school outcomes
- Knowledge or practice in the areas of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and/or Scientifically Research Based Interventions (SRBI)
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams, community service providers, state agencies, outside service providers and families
- Demonstrate teacher-leadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the department in the above areas
- Willingness to learn and apply any personal management protocols and interventions if needed
