Position Description:
The Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) is responsible for evaluation, planning, and collaboration on IEP goal development for students at assigned sites. As a related service provider, the OTR provides appropriate intervention services designed to enhance the student’s participation and learning potential in a variety of educational environments. Good communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to collaborate with educators, parents, school support staff, and other professionals as appropriate. Organizational skills and the ability to work independently are necessities.

Essential Functions:
Maintain the strictest confidence concerning personnel, students and operational concerns of the district
Ensure safety of students
Collaborate with educators, tutors, principals and other personnel in designing student appropriate occupational therapy learning objectives that meet the specific needs of the individual student to advance learning goals as established by the Individual Education Plan (IEP) in alignment with district learning objectives
Comply with learning objectives as outlined in IEP
Continually assess progress, recommend revisions and/or recommend new treatments or learning objectives for learners
Provide guidance and direct the work of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants as necessary
Interpret medical and academic reports in order to provide proper treatment; design appropriate IEP learning objectives
Maintain activity logs, progress reports, treatment plans and all other necessary files as required
Comply with the professional, ethical and legal codes of conduct, standards, and practices for Occupational Therapists as outlined by the Connecticut State Department of Education
Use professional evaluations, assessments and other proven supplementary information to evaluate student needs
Interpret findings accurately and convey information professionally to parents and school personnel as appropriate
Train classroom staff in the safe implementation of daily classroom routines as required
Serve as a resource to parents, school personnel and administration on the effects of Occupational Therapy and the educational process
Maintain inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies
Attend meetings and in-services as required
Properly and accurately provide timely Medicare/Medicaid billing information in accordance with federal, state, and local laws to include the Connecticut Department of Education
Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
Report all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate school personnel and proper government authority
 
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a role model to students and staff
Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
Make contact with the public with tact and diplomacy
Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services
 
Qualifications/Certificates:
Active Occupational Therapy License issued by the Connecticut State Department of Education
