District-wide Subject Specific Instructional Specialist Job Description
(ELA, Humanities, EL, Math, Science, SRBI, Assessment & Technology)  

The primary function of the District-wide Subject Specific Instructional Specialist is to provide strong instructional guidance and assistance to classroom teachers and instructional staff in the development and implementation of curriculum and instructional programs which promote effective classroom teaching practices, increased student achievement and consistency of curricular implementation across the district.  

Qualifications: Valid CT State Teaching Certificate Master’s Degree  At least five years of successful classroom teaching experience  
Reports to:Administrative Specialist (AS) for Academics, Multilingual  Language Learning Director, and Assistant Superintendent  
Performance Expectations and Responsibilities:
1.Lead and support teachers in development and implementation of an integrated experiential, collaborative, innovative, and technology-rich approach to curriculum, instruction, and assessment in the identified specific subject area. (e.g. ELA, humanities, math, science, SRBI, EL, assessment or technology) and supports the continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
2.Directly model for teachers subject specific best practices in ELA, humanities, math, science, SRBI, EL, assessment or technology,  and curricular lessons.  
3.Revise and facilitate changes in the curriculum in the identified subject (ELA, humanities, math, science, SRBI, EL, assessment or technology) providing explanation of units and assessments, support teachers during their planning time, assist staff in locating assessment calendars, NPS curricular units, assessments etc., provide professional development on curriculum, instructional model and DOK level of a task and examine student work samples, and maximizing instructional time.
4.Develop, coordinate and/or facilitate professional development for teachers in the identified subject (ELA, humanities, math, science, SRBI, EL, assessment or technology) with a focus on planning with the end in mind, and teaming with EL and SPED teachers in collaboration with the classroom teachers to determine student needs and addressing those needs in the curriculum.
5.Analyze district, school and classroom level data for trends, identify areas of need for grade level content areas, and communicate and address identified curricular needs of  students and work with coaches and teachers to address those needs. 6.Perform other duties as required by the Administrative Specialist (AS) for Academics, Multilingual Language Learning Director, and Assistant Superintendent.
