Job Description:
IMMEDIATE 2nd grade teacher position:
Achievement First seeks talented, committed educators(with at least 2 years of full time classroom experience) to serve as a 2nd grade teacher at Amistad Academy Elementary School (K-2) in New Haven. The school is based on the Achievement First model: extremely high expectations for student achievement, rigorous instruction, no-excuses discipline, and a positive, achievement-oriented school culture. A strong classroom manager and team player who believes urban students can soar to great heights will succeed in this role.
As a teacher, you will work to create a positive, achievement-oriented class culture. Your core duties include teaching a morning reading block (four 40-minute classes), supervising snack and break, teaching math and writing, and assisting with history/science class.
As a member of our team and family, you will work with our team of dedicated teachers and administrators to do "whatever it takes" to ensure that all our scholars are dramatically improving their academic and character skills.
FYI: The Achievement First model includes a longer school day (7am-4:30pm) and a longer school year (3 weeks of half day schooling in July)
