Description:
High school English teacher for Amistad High School: Achievement First, who operates the highly successful urban charter school Amistad Academy, will double its freshman class size and add 11th grade for the 2008-2009 school year and will continue to grow with the students. All current and incoming students, who are 98% African-American or Latino and 87% free or reduced lunch, attended Amistad Academy or Elm City College Prep for middle school and have Connecticut Mastery Test scores that rival the wealthiest districts in the state. Amistad High School seeks a talented, experienced (two or more years, ideally urban experience) English teacher. A strong classroom manager and team player who believes urban students can soar to great heights will succeed in this role.
